Beauty from Betrayal

The beauty from betrayal.

I’m sure you’re confused about the title already. Truly I was too. Betrayal is heartbreaking, often confusing, and sharper than a knife to the heart. Betrayal is met by the very person who kissed your lips and sung your praises at a time before now. Met by the one who held you softly in your most vulnerable moments. Met by a friend who said they'd never leave.

So where is the beauty in that?

The beauty is found in the tiniest of crevices, between the flashbacks of where it all went wrong. In every crevice there holds a piece of truth that the Lord spoke but we missed. In the seams of the journey there lies a hope gifted by the Father who desires to fulfill every promise set before us. In the remembering there is truth that is no longer clouded by the confusion of a person we once thought could never harm us.

I’ll make clear that there is no beauty found in betrayal itself. Betrayal is a means to an end; rooted in evil and despair. However, there is beauty to be found in the shaking of our flashbacks, as the motions tunnel in and all we have left is our ability to trust our Father that loves and cares for us from beginning to end.

Five truths I found amid betrayal:

  1. Your character is not their character.

  2. Trust is earned not to be expected or freely given.

  3. The Lord wants to do something in you, don’t miss it!

  4. Prayer for your person or people leads you back to a heart of unity, forgiveness, and freedom.

  5. The Lord still wants to gift friendships that are as sweet as honey.

I wish I could make your pain go away, and try as we might there it remains. So, I pray that you are reminded of who you are. Even as everything around you tries to destroy your character and faith in what the Lord has said about your life. Remember, you are kind, loved, fearlessly formed, gentle, lowly, precious, and mighty in the Kingdom of God who is to come.

“These things I have spoken to you so that in Me you may have peace. In the world you have tribulation, but take courage; I have overcome the world.””

‭‭John‬ ‭16:33‬ ‭NASB2020‬‬

Do not allow the character of another change the character of yourself. The Lord is judge and all things come to light. No secret remains in the darkness and woe to the one who hides it. Remain grounded, steadfast, and full of faith. You do not need to bring your own justice because you cannot do so where the Father says it is His.

“So I have not sinned against you, but you are doing me wrong by making war against me. May the Lord, the Judge, judge today between the sons of Israel and the sons of Ammon.’ ””

‭‭Judges‬ ‭11:27‬ ‭NASB2020‬‬

To the one who betrays.

I know you feel shame and guilt. I also know you too are hurting. The Lord desires to do a work in you too. He has not given up hope even as you have tirelessly wandered looking. He sees you, naked and afraid, He sees you. He holds the finest of robes to garnish upon you. Allow Him to search your heart. Find His grace that is only met in repentance. There is mending for your wounds and there is peace for your chaos.

“I acknowledged my sin to You, And I did not hide my guilt; I said, “I will confess my wrongdoings to the Lord”; And You forgave the guilt of my sin. Selah”

‭‭Psalms‬ ‭32:5‬ ‭NASB2020‬‬

Beauty from Betrayal.

It just takes a steady heart, uplifting friends, and a spirit desperate for their King.
